I’d like to take this opportunity to say thanks times a million to Swistle for doing this for me. In fact, that’s pretty much all I can think of to say right now, as I’m completely overwhelmed.
So thank you. Again. The fact someone who doesn’t even know me would take time out of her hugely, ridiculously busy schedule for me…well, I just…yeah.
See, I’m not good at this.
I’ll stop now.

I wish there was more. I feel the urge to TAKE ACTION. Like, if babies grew in the forest like rare mushrooms, I would want to get a flashlight and go BABY-SEARCHING.

You just said exactly how I feel about it. I KNOW there has to be a way for this to work. I just need to get through all that IN BETWEEN stuff to get to the end result.

Best of luck to you! I left a comment at Swistle’s blog but wanted to let you know I’m rooting for you. I know from personal experience that adoption is a beautiful way to build a family.

Thank you so much!

I commented on Swistle’s blog so all the stories would be in the same place. That was a super idea on her part!

Thank you for sharing that story and also for being straight awesome-sauce.

I posted on Swistle’s post, but I wanted to post here too – I’m an adoptive mom and it is an amazing thing! I know we’re strangers, but please feel free to contact me – (smrtmouse at yahoo dot com) if I can help answer any questions at all!

This is exciting!

I wanted to come by and say hello, too. I also left a comment (not a helpful one though) at Swistle’s. I also wanted to say that I started reading your blog a while back and tried to start at the beginning so I’d know what was going on, but I stopped. 😦

I’m gonna just start now. From here.

OK- enough rambling, have a good day!

Cool; hi (again)!

I am the lucky mom of two fantabulous children. Our daughter came home when she was about six months old and our son arrived when he was about 7 months old. They are now fully grown with full and active lives. We stay in touch and see each other often despite living several states away from one another.

At the time, saying ‘adoption’ out loud felt like there was something wrong with me. We both came from large families but the conception thing just wasn’t working no matter what we tried – from wearing boxers instead of briefs to daily temperature/ovulation charting, tests, drugs, and more procedures.

The case worker for the home study was very thorough, pressing for details on how we were raised, how were we disciplined as children, frequency of sexual relations, whether we were part of a church, why we wanted children, and would it matter if the children didn’t mirror a family member. They contacted doctors, references we gave, and made us wait over 45 days for the report deeming us fit candidates for adoption, In many subtle ways they pointed out the cultural differences and attitudes adoptive parents encounter. In particular was the idea that I was martyring myself to bring up someone else’s child.

Hell no.

My kids. I did not breed them but they are, and were always meant to be, MY kids.

Hold your partner close and go for it. It is SO worth it.

That was an amazing story to read; thank you.
