Thankful for family additions November 27, 2008

Posted by Kimmothy in Fam Damily, Holidays.

Thanksgiving, aaaahhh.

I’m sitting in my pj’s watching the parade. Nothing makes me quite as homesick for New York as this thing. This is one of those holidays that is an “up north” holiday, in my mind anyway. I hated when it was hot in Florida on this day. Not that it usually was, but there were those years we wore shorts and t-shirts. Ridiculous.

We got some interesting news yesterday. Brian’s dad married Melissa, his girlfriend of almost twelve years. They just went and had a civil ceremony at the courthouse in Orlando and didn’t tell anyone until afterwards. It was kind of surprising, as his dad always said he’d never marry again (why do people insist on saying “never”?) after he and Brian’s mom split. So after twenty-five years he decides to enter holy wedlock once again?

Brian was busy rummaging through the refrigerator last night when I called in from the living room half jokingly, “You don’t think he did it for the tax break, do you?” He stopped and peered around the fridge door and looked at me. I thought he was pissed, but then he smiled. He said, “Funny you should say that…he did mention something about how now they’d get a little break on their taxes…” Oh boy. I didn’t mean to burst the bubble of spontaneous romance by being a buzz-killing cynic. But I know his dad so well! I know he loves Melissa, but I also know we’re in an economic crisis and he has a house up here he hasn’t been able to sell. He’s retired, but he’s fond of expensive vacations and toys, so has started working again. He’s always been very particular and careful about where his money goes – what an easy way to create another tax shelter!

Who cares. Our family has officially just gotten bigger and that’s cool. Buzz and Jesse are Brian’s new step-brothers and we like them a lot. Melissa will make a very cool step-mother-in-law. His dad will be here tomorrow for more hunting and there’s a chance Melissa will come along as well. I hope so. I’m dying to see the ring.

I hope everybody has safe travel, lots of good fun, good eats and fabulous tryptophan-induced naps today.

I finally got to sit down for a little bit and answer some messages and stuff before sticking the turkey breast in the oven. The house will start smelling heavenly around that time. 🙂

Hope you have a great one, sweet girl!

I understand the parade triggering homesickness. I REALLY missed Chicago around St. Patrick’s Day. I’d watch the parade and they’d show the Chicago River colored all green and they just don’t go in for the day o’ the green that much in the desert. Or Halloween…sheesh. No wonder I had to come back home! 😉

Happy Thanksgiving!

I can understand his dad. We had our last kid on December 28th. It was due on Jan. 4th. Having him come a week early saved me a couple grand…

I’m just sayin’…
